Windows IP Address Commands

Step 1 - Open a Command Prompt. (For XP: Click the Start/Windows Button, then click "RUN". For Vista: Hold the "Windows" Icon key on your keyboard and Press "R")
Step 2 - Type "CMD" (without quotes) and press ENTER.
Step 3 - Type (or copy and paste) any of the commands below (one at a time) and press enter to see the results.

ipconfig
Displays Your IP Address and some other basic IP configuration information.

ipconfig /all
Displays your IP address and detailed IP configuration information.

ipconfig /flushdns
Instructs the network host to dump all cached DNS entries.

ipconfig /displaydns
Instructs the network host to display all cached DNS entries.

ipconfig /registerdns
Instructs the network host to register its hostname and IP dynamically to the local DNS servers.

ipconfig /renew
Requests a new IP address from a DHCP server. (Only works if you DO NOT have a static IP)

ipconfig /release
Releases (removes) the current IP address configuration. (Only works if you DO NOT have a static IP)

ipconfig /allcompartments
Shows IP information for all available compartments.

ipconfig /allcompartments /all
Shows detailed IP information about all available compartments.

ping www.ShowMyIP.ws
Verifies that you can connect to the Internet successfully.

"C:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe" http://www.ShowMyIP.ws
Verifies that Internet Explorer is working and that you can browse the internet. (be sure to include the quotes for this to work)
